Sweetbriar Gardens is an aquatic nursery specializing in water lilies our products include:

  • Hardy Water Lilies - These are the queens of your garden. Make sure you get the right one for your location and pond size. Hardies do better in cooler climates than tropicals and require less care.
  • Tropical Water Lilies - In subtropical climates the winters are relatively warm, but not as hot as the summer season. These climates rarely – if ever – see frost or snow, and plants such as palm, citrus and broadleaf evergreens flourish. Cannot ship. Must be purchased at the gardens.
  • Bog Plants - These plants grow with their roots in the soil. Some grow in soil that is moist or wet, others like to be few inches under the water. Some are clump forming and others are rambling. Flowers and foliage range in a variety of colors. They provide ambiance and add interest to the pond.
  • Fish - We have pond bred and born Blue Paradise fish and Variatus Platies, males and females. These fish are very hardy and will eat mosquito larve. They will not damage pond plants compared to larger fish such as Koi. They must be purchased at the gardens. (We cannot ship fish, they must be purchased at the gardens.)
  • Floating Plants - Besides adding beauty, floater’s roots remove nitrogen from the water, which is beneficial to ecology and fish. They shade the waters surface which prevents algae growth. They offer fish a place to hide and lay their eggs and create a shelter for them to avoid being eaten by large fish.
  • Lotus - Similar to water lilies but hold their leaves and flowers well above the water. They have bowl-shaped, fragrant blossoms. Cultivars grow from 6” to 6’in height. They also grow well in bogs with a few inches of standing water. (We cannot ship Lotus, they must be purchased at the gardens.)
  • Submerged Plants - These plants grow completely under the water thus releasing oxygen and helping to maintain a proper ph for fish.
  • Sub-tropical Plants - In subtropical climates the winters are relatively warm, but not as hot as the summer season. These climates rarely – if ever – see frost or snow, and plants such as palm, citrus and broadleaf evergreens flourish. (We cannot ship sub-tropicals, they must be purchased at the gardens.)
